The High School Student Council consists of seven members: President, Vice-President, cretary-Treasurer, and a representative for each grade level. Members are elected by the student body at the end of each school year, and will serve on the Student Council for the subsequent school year.
The Student Council fulfills three important functions within the school: organizing and coordinating a range of appropriate activities that enrich school life; keeping the student body informed regarding issues that affect them; and representing the students interests to staff and administration in order to improve the school both academically and socially.
Our ¡°Community Service¡± team was very successful with their programs over the years. Our teams consists of four divisions: Milal School, Myungjin Orphanage, Hasang Welfare, and the Joongkok Welfare House. The main objective of our team is to help others that live in poor conditions. Also, we have an intention to learn something valuable, so it may help us in the future, and to better undestand those in need.
Team members of Joongkok Welfare House and Milal School worked as the teachers¡¯ assistants in different classes in order to communicate with the students, and also help them read and write by tutoring various subjects.
Members of the Myungjin Orphanage spend meaningful hours with the children so they don¡¯t feel the sense of loneliness and depression. Not only do members play with the students, but also aid the students with their school work.
In addition, the Hasang Welfare House team members organized brail to help people so the blind are able to read. Working in the library, team members also type and print brail papers and prepare them to turn into books for reading.
In between these Community Service programs, the members conducted fund-raising by bake sales and donations.
Community Service is an opportunity that helps us realize the importance of our lives. It also teaches how meaningful it is to spend and give some time with students that are less fortunate than ourselves.
